    Hi there!
    Please, could someone help with the following question? Using Sela theme, is it at all possible to add a slider to the full width of the ‘Front Page’ template. In another words instead of having a featured image, to have a (featured) slider in its place? Also, to do this without the overlay area that contains the page content which usually sits on top of the featured image? Looking forward to hearing from the community!

  • Hi there,

    Have you tried using the Dara theme? It looks similar to Sela and has a slider built in already.

    Hello David,

    Many thanks for the suggestion- much appreciated!

    What I like about Dara is that ‘Featured Content’ at the top of the static page is ‘edge to edge’ with no solid panel sitting on top of it (unlike Sela), however, the unfortunate thing about Dara is that the slider in ‘Featured Content’ is triggered by posts only which is limiting for what I need this feature for. I need the slider to work independently so I can create a series of promotional slides to sit in that space, leading to various Categories and/or pages in the site.

    Any ideas? Looking forward to your reply!

    I don’t know if this is what you’re looking for or not, but I just installed a slider plugin (I used Super Hero Slider) and it worked like a charm. For some reason I did have to set a featured image for the home page, but it doesn’t show. The slider just takes its place once you create it and set it as the slider for the home page. You can see mine at https://www.franksfiddles.com to see if that’s close to what you’re after. Hope it helps!

    That’s super, Jessie- Thank you! I shall certainly have a go.
    Which theme have you used there, Sela or Dara?
    Also, am I right in thinking that each slide in ‘FranksFiddles’ is 1180 x 440 px ?

    Much appreciated.

    I am using the Sela theme and the slide images I used are 1180×435, but it looks like the slider resizes them before they are displayed to 1024×377. I hadn’t noticed until you asked! It would probably be better to use the size it wants.

    Hi Jessi!

    I made the slider, using super hero slider (excellent!), and each slide has the suggested size: 1024×377. I drafted this quickly to see how it works and by no means is finished, for reference, you can view it here: https://www.safadesign.co.uk/test.
    What I am aiming for is what you managed to achieve on ‘Frank’s Fiddles’, edge to edge display of the slider which is butted up against the Nav-Bar. I can’t see anything in the settings that would have an affect so I’m assuming you’ve had to alter something in CSS. Your guidance is much appreciated.

    Hmmm…I don’t know. There’s not much more than color changes in my custom CSS, so I don’t think that’s it. The only thing in my CSS which I do not know the purpose of (I’m sure there was a reason…I just don’t know what it was now!) is the following:

    .front-page-content-area .with-featured-image {
    display: none;
    }

    (I tried taking that out to see if it made my slides look more like yours but it didn’t…)

    The slides themselves are set to full width (in the slide settings), but I don’t think that will make any difference in terms of moving the slider up towards the nav bar?? Sorry, I don’t really know. Hopefully someone else can help you from here?

    Hope you can get it figured out!

    Thanks for your time, Jessie!
    By the way, have you noticed the slides only move in one direction no matter which directional button you choose on the slider?
    Oh… I just thought of something! Would you please check the media settings for your slider? it may shed some light on the issues I’m having with the slider. This is how to get there on your Dashboard: Settings >> Super Hero Slider >> Media and then you will see a figure for ‘Image Width’ and a value for ‘Default Image Size’. I’ll see if those make any difference.
    Also, If you don’t mind I’ll keep this open in case someone comes in with a different suggestion. Thanks just the same for all your help.

    I hadn’t noticed! That’s funny. The settings on on my site are Image width: 1920 and Default image size: large. Hope someone comes through for you. There’s nothing worse than these tiny little things that you can’t quite seem to figure out!

    Cheers! I hope so too…
