• I regret having to write this.

Total Upkeep was recommended by my hosting company tech support.

ONLY after adding it a few weeks ago have I ever seen problems with my site seeming to ‘revert’ to an earlier state. This likely happens due to the default Automatic Rollback which makes you click a button even after SUCCESSFUL plugin updates are made. I originally did not realize this.

However, sometime last week, my site reverted back to a state of 2-3 weeks ago. I lost a week of orders and a lot of other work which was easy to see. Although I had 3 full backups made, none of them worked to bring the site to that days state which would have saved the customer data and order data depending on the date. NONE worked properly even though I restored from my wp dashboard and even attempted restoration from the bold grid backup folder.

ALL the backups and restoration attempts were registered and added in the file and folders as they would seem to do if correct.

Reviewing the size of the files seemed to indicate that the full site was backed up. The MySQL files would indicate the same. All the ‘numbers added up’ so to speak.

Regardless, I had a backup solution which did not restore. More importantly, it seemed to cause problems.

Finally, the Site Health Check feature caused a fatal flaw in 1) a Backup Attempt AFTER I disabled the Automatic Rollback feature. This crashed the site and locked me out from logging into the dashboard. It created hours of work in tech support to find the solution and restore the site (wp-core re-load from ssh terminal). 2) The fatal error quoted the exact line of code in wp-settings.php file where the Site Health Check Module began. 3) AFter Enabling the Auto Rollback feature, an attempt to RESTORE using Total Upkeep caused the same Fatal Flaw error code, site crash and url login lockout quoting the exact same line of code related to Site Health Check. Again, a long wait and hours later, the site was back live.

In the end, I used Total Upkeep for less than 3 weeks.
In that time I had a few weird disappearances of coupon codes and a couple other small product page improvements.
I then had my site revert back causing me to lose orders, customer information and work over a 2 week period.
I spent 10 or more hours over 4 different days troubleshooting.
None of the Total Upkeep backups worked to restore site to any of the 3 different days which would have saved some of that information lost.
Then Total Upkeep crashed my site in a Backup attempt.
Total Upkeep crashed my site in a Restore attempt after the site was brought back online.

I’d love to have this to have worked. The Rollback ideas is a good one. The automatic rollback with a radio button to say yes when the plugin update is successful makes no sense.

Somewhere the execution of the 15 minute Site Health Check and Automatic Rollback Feature, timer or something has a serious and fatal flaw in the logic or code.

I would not trust it ever again.

I’ll go back, pay my money and use the UpDraftPlus plugin which served me flawlessly and saved me a few times in the 4-5 years I have used it.

Good luck to all of you. We are all in this together. Honest and forthright help will make each of our lives more fruitful. And, 10 hours of pain could be put towards creating pain reducing articles, ideas and service instead.

Hi, this is Brad with Total Upkeep. In a separate thread, braintraincoach mentioned that he’s done discussing this issue, and does not want to be contacted about it. So, this response is for anyone who’s browsing and wants to find out more about this 1 star rating.

I made a video talking about this, if you have time to watch, that would be great! https://youtu.be/s04C7TZ1IzM

In summary of the video though, Total Upkeep had the opportunity to save the day and fix a broken site, but did not. For that, I’m very sorry. I wish I knew more about what happened so I could fix it.

braintraincoach didn’t reach out for any help to Total Upkeep, but I wanted to take a moment to just say that we are here to help. If you’re using Total Upkeep and having any type of issue, just send us a message! Issues like this are what keep me up at night, we really do care – and if you’re having trouble we’re here to help, just ask.

    Thanks!
    – Brad
