• Hey all ??

I’ve written my first plugin. I have a few people testing it right now (just a couple) with some good reports so far, but I’d really like to get some further input to see how I can improve what’s here.

Right now, this plugin integrates Mal’s with WordPress pretty seamlessly. (in my opinion anyway!) It’s based off of a bunch of functions (and a tutorial) I wrote for a client, and if I’d had this, I know setting the client up would have been a lot easier. It works with the Mal’s free account – I don’t have access to the “premium” one yet to try it out there, but I’m taking it one step at a time. In the end, I’d also like to make this work with PayPal Website Payments Pro (and maybe Google Checkout? I haven’t decided yet.) so there would be a few options for you all. But for now, it’s just the Mal’s free account.

I’d love it if some people could try it out for me, and just let me know how it goes. Let me know if it works okay, if my instructions are good (or I suck at it), and if you have any ideas for improvements or features that would be nice additions. (For the record, I already have a list of features I’d like to add to it – I just haven’t gotten to that point yet.)

Anyway, if some people could check it out and let me know how it goes, I’d really appreciate it. (For the record, I fully intend for this to stay a free release to go into the repository – I just want to be sure it’s worthy enough to go there.)

You can get it here. For the record, that link takes you to my website (to the very post the download is located in) – it won’t download directly from this link. I dunno – downloading files directly from a forum always makes me feel iffy, so I hope it’s okay that I’ve linked to the post instead of directly to the file.

Thanks in advance for any feedback you all might have for me! I really appreciate it ?? Like I said, I’ve never done this before, so please try to be constructive in your criticism. Bashing and/or generalities won’t help me fix or improve it. Thank you!

  • 30 seconds ago, I googled “wordpress mals” and up popped your post in the forum.

I’ve used Mals for my clients sites for YEARS and recently started porting their websites to WordPress.

I’m in the midst of two launches right now, but I would LOVE to try your plugin for an upcoming project.

Oh, and just FYI, I believe there is a commercial application called SimpleCart that is a competitor of Mal’s Cart.

    More soon…

No kidding – good to know! LOL Guess it’s in for a name change then ?? Thanks!

For the record, I’m already working on some changes to what’s available on my site for download. A couple of the current testers have come back with some option requests that I’m working on. This would include more customized messages, checkboxes instead of dropdowns, and a better system for attributes. (Attributes are hard though – but I’m working on it!) I’m also trying to integrate an emailing system so customized receipts and notifications will work – haven’t gotten that in yet.

but anyway, let me know if there’s anything you’d like to see that woudl make it better – I’m all about making this work.

How is it going with this?

I think this plug in would be good in a shop with a smaller number of items, but I have a client who changes his inventory pretty much completely every 6 weeks when he gets shipments in from Europe. Instead of purchasing, the customer add things to their wishlist and it gets sent to him so that he can check availability.

Currently, I am using a heavily customized Photoshop Web Photo Gallery that generates the Mals’ code from the file name. He puts the prices on the images themselves, so I only have to change the product description.

I’m wondering if we could somehow meld your plugin with a photo gallery type plug in whose captions are Add to Cart code.

I’m just thinking out loud here…

I’m still working on it (sorry for the long delay ?? ) I’ve had several ideas for it, and now there’s a competition that I’m trying to finish it for. At least, the first release. I have a feeling I’ll be doing more than one ??

    Hello Doodlebee!

What happened with you, Mal’s and WordPress? Do you still need testers? I have a long time client who is a huge Mal’s fan. I’m also switching him to WP for better content management.

I’d love to know the latest on what you are doing!

    All the best, Rosie
