Definitely a great start.

I wouldn’t waste so much space with a header image, to be honest. That’s a pretty big header image.

I would also look at maybe using thinner block images, ie for Search, Archives, etc. they seem a bit “heavy” — maybe make them thinner to give it a cleaner look.

But definitely a good start, good job!

Thanks, I will look into that button idea and try some out, you may have something there. I’ve gotten some pretty positive feedback on the image so far though, the size especially, and I really like it myself, so I think I’ll stick it out on that part lol

Honestly, with the high quality of writing that you do, I would select a theme that is simpler with a clean white background. Why? Your current theme is not conducive to reading lots of text. A cleaner simpler theme using a white background is easier on the eyes and provides better contrast for reading blocks of copy. You have a great writing style and much to say. Make it easy for the reader. This WordPress forum design is a good example of a highly legible theme that makes it easier to read lots of content. Keep writing!
