Hi, I hope this is the right place for this question.

I’m looking for a new security plugin.

From a features and functionality standpoint I’ve rather liked iThemes Security which I’ve had since it was WordPress Better Security a couple of years ago. However, lately, it seems I can’t go long at a time before I have to nuke out its contributions to the .htaccess file, it is forever blocking my user account from logging in even when I’m logged in from another user account and it is saying there are no blocked accounts (and obviously my IP isn’t on the blacklist or my alt userID wouldn’t have worked).

I see JetPack has added a brute force protection, which is 99% of all the security add-on I need, but I don’t know how effective it is.

Yes, I could contact iTheme’s developers, which I’ve done in the past and they were nicely responsive, but perusing its support discussions I’m thinking it gets a little more carried away for my needs is the source of some of my issues (like that old dept store in Mannequin with G W Bailey as the night guard).

It is a “commercial” blog in that I and my wife are professional authors and this is where we have our public blogs, and where we try to keep a portal of places to buy our books from, but it’s not like there’s a mass of OMG SEEKIT!!1!! data anywhere, I just don’t want the site hijacked.
