OK, I’m in the final throes of setting up the s2member but would like to ensure it plays nicely with my Bullet Proof Security Pro plugin.

I’ve checked the BPS forum and he’s done great work on it, info at this link:
https://www.forum.ait-pro.com/forums/topic/bulletproof-conflict-with-s2member/ so I know that there are work-arounds.

However, I’d prefer to keep my login security and brute force protection settings in my BPS plugin, to align with my other sites, but would also like to include the s2member ‘Verified Security Badge’… so my question is, will s2member recognise that my site is protected properly by my BPS plugin settings (covering login security and brute force protection) and so show the ‘Verified’ text?… or is it only based on having the correct settings in the s2member options saved?

Many thanks in advance for any insight into this.

  • Typically with membership plugins and themes, login processing does many additional things besides just login security. ie verifying, handling, etc usernames/user accounts as they relate to a membership. In a lot of cases that I have seen if you do not allow the membership plugin or theme to handle login processing then that screws up handling members. The s2Member folks will be able to give you a more precise answer about what s2Member needs to do/be able to do to work fully. Just posting some general basic info.

    S2Member Restriction Options Menu:
    Brute Force IP/Login Restrictions option
    Unique IP Access Restrictions option

S2Member will override BPS Pro Login Security if the 2 S2Member options above are being used / are turned “on”.

Just looked at the Forum link above. Should have looked at that first. ?? What the forum topic is saying in plain english is that s2Member will work fine because it will override BPS Login Security, which of course means s2Member login and login security will negate/override BPS Login Security, which is exactly what you want to happen to ensure that membership account/user account handling and processing is fully working/fully functioning.

OK, but is it as effective as the BPS login security? – ie. is it OK to turn off the BPS login security? If so, then my question is answered… if not, then I’d prefer to keep BPS handling the security – which is fine BUT I’d like to have the s2member Verified Badge working too (ie. have my cake and eat it!).

Not really sure what s2Member’s login security capabilities are so the s2 folks will be able to tell you that. You can keep BPS Login Security on since it may or may not still be doing something. s2 will override BPS Login Security and do what it needs to do so it does not hurt to keep BPS Login Security turned On.

Thought I’d post an update here for anyone else who’s looking for this info. This is the link to the Bullet proof Security forum where the BPS author has provided a very comprehensive explanation of these settings:
