    Hi there,

I am going to create a staging copy of my site to work on a new theme. I’m asking advice if I’d need to set up Wordfence to work on that staging copy for two reasons:

    1. to secure the staging copy against attacks (if necessary, I plan on placing a password protection on it so it doesn’t get indexed)
    2. deploying the staging copy… will it interfere with the Wordfence settings on my live site?

    Thanks!

  • Hi @aderobinson,

If you’re adding basic authentication (within .htaccess), you won’t need to install Wordfence, as all requests require the basic auth password before even reaching any scripts / assets. (I’d still recommend adding Wordfence, just so if you remove basic auth, your site is protected)

As for your second question, if you plan on installing Wordfence on your staging site, it won’t interfere with the settings on your live site.

    Dave
