• Resolved Show Up Strong

After the update, the secondary title is showing up in the categories sidebar. I deactivated the plugin and it was fixed. Activated it again and the problem came back. I can’t find a way to roll back or download the previous version to fix this until there’s hopefully a new update that fixes this.

  • Rest assured, you’re not alone.

I am having the same problem at https://www.naturefolk.net/flyer. It only seems to affect the blog page (i.e. flyer). And yes, it happened the moment it updated from 2.0.6 to 2.0.7. I have another website that didn’t “auto-update” and it also uses Secondary Title and it is fine. Not sure what I did (i.e. settings) that that site didn’t auto-update.

Good to know at least it appears to be the update.

    Good news and update:

I corrected it on my website by downgrading from 2.0.7 back down to 2.0.6. You can do it by going to the WordPress Repository for Secondary Title, clicking “Advanced View” on the right side bar, and then downloading the 2.0.6 version. You then simply install the 2.0.6 version and it will overwrite the 2.0.7 faulty version. Also, you might want to disable “auto updates” on your plugin list page. You’ll see that on the far right column.

I read how to do it in Kinsta https://kinsta.com/knowledgebase/download-older-versions-of-wordpress-plugins/#:~:text=The%20first%20thing%20to%20do,plugin%20in%20the%20WordPress%20repository.&text=Scroll%20down%20on%20the%20plugin’s,on%20the%20%E2%80%9CAdvanced%20View.%E2%80%9D&text=Scroll%20to%20the%20bottom%20of,back%20in%20time%20if%20needed.

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you @rsobczak,
Downgrading worked in the meantime! Hope this gets a fix soon ??

I agree. I disabled all auto plugin updates on my website. I really love Secondary Title. But it would be nice if they charged a small fee to help ensure seamless updates as opposed to the “donation model” and poorly executed updates. It’s a really great plugin and deserves to be work without user-end angst. I figured this out myself with sleuthing, but it would be a lot less stressful if the developer had thought the update through.

    Hi all,

Thanks for pointing this out. Pushing updates always comes with a certain risk, especially if several thousand users have it installed. While I do my best to test every release before uploading it, mistakes can happen since I do have a full-time job and do WordPress development on the side. I apologize if it caused any inconvenience for you.

If you look at the thread from yesterday where I discussed the next update in-depth with two fellow developers, you can see that I actually do think through changes. But mistakes happen, unfortunately, and I’m sorry for that.

I now need your help in determining what works what and doesn’t, if you’re so kind. Please download this version (it’s still marked as 2.0.7 but it’s a modified one) and please replace it with your current one on your web server and let me know if that worked for you. Because this was the main change from the last version.

    Hi @thaikolja

Downloaded this dev version you provided, and I can confirm it fixed the issue on my dev environment.

    Hi all,

For the time being, I’ve updated a hotfix, version 2.0.7.1, that reverted the particular change made yesterday. Please let me know if you have any trouble after updating.

Hi, everything seems to be working fine with the hotfix! Thank you so much for such a quick solution.

No, thank YOU for pointing it out without leaving a 1-star review for a bug. If you like, you can leave an appropriate review ??

Thank you @rsobczak for showing me where to find the old version and for your response.

Thank you @thaikolja for this great plugin and for fixing it so quickly. Everything seems to be working fine again.

I love this plugin and I completely understand it’s hard to make sure everything works perfectly, especially if this isn’t your full-time business/job. I appreciate your rapid response to the problem.

Thanks for your kind words and understanding of the situation, @show-up-strong. If you’re happy with the plugin and my support, I’m always happy for a review ??

Thank you @thaikolja ! I too love your plugin. It was recommended in WPBeginner and it really adds a ton of functionality to blog posts and blog structuring. I’m new to WordPress, so the issue really forced me to do some sleuthing and understand things better. Thank you @show-up-strong for your post. It gave me a clue what was going on and I wasn’t alone. And FYI: Of all my plugins, I really rank this one high, among the top – and an essential for a good blog. It’s just what the doctor ordered, and to my knowledge no other plugin provides the same functionality. I just can’t believe it’s free. Definitely worth 5 stars all the way. ??
