This is a really weird problem, but it’s definitely related to this plugin.

Since upgrading to 4.7.2, any posts that we have with a secondary title (entered via this plugin) will not allow comments. When the reader enters a comment in the comment box and clicks to save, we get the WordPress error message, “Please type a comment”, even though the comment box is not empty.

I have spent a LOT of hours tracking this problem down and it is definitely related to this plugin. I have eliminated all other plugins as being the problem by deactivating them. I have also tried reverting to the simple Twenty Fifteen theme and the problem is still there for all posts that have a secondary title.

I’m not sure, but I think this problem was introduced when we upgraded to WordPress 4.7.2.

You can head over to the site at:
    https://harvestingdinner.com

And try commenting on posts – if they have a secondary title (appears above the main title on the post), it will block comments; if no secondary title, the comment will go through fine.

    Any thoughts on this one?

Well, I haven’t heard anything about this issue and I’ve tried everything I can think of to fix it. I’ve removed this plugin and reinstalled it, I’ve cleaned out the database tables and recreated all the subtitles, I’ve deleted posts and recreated them from scratch.

Still there was the same problem – comments were blocked when a subtitle was present.

I have now deleted this plugin and am looking to hand code my own solution. If anyone else figures out how to fix this please do let me know, it was a great plugin and I’ll miss it.

Your problem is a strange problem. Strange because actually, those two elements should not have anything to do with each other.

After you posted your first message, I’ve already briefly checked if I can find something in the code itself but returned empty-handed.

When time allows it, I’ll continue to find a solution for this problem because I’d like my plugins to work flawlessly.

    Sorry for keeping you waiting.

    Hi @snowbelly,

I’ve tried for hours to reproduce this bug but always failed. The only thing I can do is asking you for your FTP and Dashboard login so I can work on the affected website itself. I’ve done the same for several other users here in the forum, so don’t worry about me doing anything stupid or something.

What do you think? If you’re cool with that, please send me your details to [email protected].
