Secondary Title doesn’t work well with Divi Builder+Polylang

  • Hi! I am writing you to ask for help with a couple of issues; your plugin was already sometimes finicky with Divi Builder (if you activate said builder before adding the secondary title, the input field for it goes away and won’t reappear unless you delete the post and create a new one from scratch), but at least if you add the secondary title before activating the Divi Builder, the secondary title will be added to the database and display just fine.

    However, after adding Polylang to the mix, secondary titles will never display in the secondary language (not by default, at least), even if it does get added to the database. However, the Secondary Title input field will never reappear in the translated post editing page, whereas it does appear on the original one. I may try fiddling with default post/category layouts and manually add secondary titles if I absolutely have to, but I’d rather not.

    Can you help me out with this, and maybe make Secondary Title play nicer by default with the ever-so-popular Divi and Polylang plugins? I know that, as per the WP support forum guidelines, I am not supposed to ask for support regarding premium themes and plugins, and if it’s either/both Divi’s or/and Polylang’s fault yours isn’t working properly, please excuse me in advance (I will also contact elegant themes support on this issue, obviously).

    By the way, for comparison’s sake, here’s the URL to the original, Portuguese version of the same page:

    As you can see, something’s amiss, as the secondary title (which I edited to have the same formatting as the titles on the other pages) is completely gone and the title took its place (don’t mind the meta line, btw, as I’m indeed supposed to manually remove that one later on by editing the corresponding .php code). Also, I should add that WP and all my plugins are properly updated to their latest versions, so that can’t be the cause of this bug.

    Oops. The second, more serious issue seems to have been a textbook case of PEBKAC. I forgot to edit Secondary Title’s options to make those visible on the newly created English categories with Polylang. My bad! I did it already and now they are visible on both en/archive/archive-exhibitions and /arquivo/arquivo-exposi??es category posts and category listings, as you can see. ??

    However, the first issue still remains; if I ever wish to edit the secondary title on a translated post, I just can’t do it without deleting both it and its original and starting over, because the text input field is gone forever from the moment I use the Divi Builder and publish my translated post.

    While on that subject, couldn’t secondary titles also be editable on the Quick Edit interface on the post database?

    Thanks for your message.

    Frankly speaking, I don’t use Divi or Polylang, which is why it doesn’t surprise me much that there are some compatibility issues. I’ll have a look at these two first before I can tell you more.

    If you’re interested in helping me with that, I’d love to have a playground installation with both plugin/theme where I can test things out until they work. Is there a way you can clone your site, maybe with BackupBuddy, so that I can work locally?

    While on that subject, couldn’t secondary titles also be editable on the Quick Edit interface on the post database?

    Would make sense, yeah. I had it implemented some versions ago but found it too buggy with other plugins. I might give it another try.
