I’m using a theme called Bluebird on my wordpress site, merlotmudpies.com. I ran into a problem where, when I constructed a secondary menu based off of my post categories, it would appear in the preview pane for customizing the theme, but when I close the customization pane the secondary menu disappears.

I thought perhaps this was a theme issue so I contacted the developer who did a lot of work trying to figure out whether all my setup was correct (it was, which is amazing because I’m a total amateur) and she had the same problem. However, when she tried to recreate the problem on her servers, she could not. I assumed this was simply an issue with that specific theme but then I tried a couple of the WP themes and found that with 2012, which has a similarly laid out secondary menu I had the same problem. But in, for instance, 2014, the secondary menu works just fine.

I’ve tried disabling all plugins according to the methods listed on this forum, I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the theme and etc. but I cannot get the secondary menu to show.

Any help would be appreciated. Please let me know if you need any more info than I’ve listed here.

I finally figured this out. I had the BlueBird theme files nested in one extra folder on my server so instead of /wp-content/themes/Jgt_BlueBird I had /wp-content/themes/bluebird_theme_files/Jgt_BlueBird. When I moved the folder up one level and deleted the extra bluebird_theme_files directory the issue immediately resolved and my secondary menu is now appearing properly.

So simply…but my goodness was it hard to track down.
