Hi so I am running wordpress on windows server 2008 IIS7 and the main wordpress install is functioning how it should… I’ve created a new site which will run in an additional directory i.e ‘sites/nameofsite/’ but when trying to access the home page I get a 500 Server error and when trying to access the admin I get a 401 – Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials.

From research the 2 things I have done is ensure that all permissions are granted on the sites directory and also ensured the Anonymous Authentication is switched to use Application pool… Neither has made any difference. Can anyone help?

    Thanks

    Ben

Not a fix but the issue seem to be transferring files from localhost to my server… Just had to start fresh and install directly onto server and retransfer the files via FTP… This seem to fix it!

I’m glad you found your solution. We appreciate you posted your solution, as it helps anyone with the same problem as you find possible answers.

Sorry no one was able to answer in the meantime. Don’t be afraid to make another post if you have any further issues.

No problem, the issue was that having a second install in my main wordpress installation… following instructions on this tutorial page fixed it https://geefamily.net/2010/08/22/wordpress-and-subdomains

    Cheers
