Second Multisite Dashboard not displaying. However, both my sites were.

I trolled through many forums posts and by in large the technical content went over my head. But in the process I did pick up on the importance of checking your .htaccess and wp-config files vigorously.

After deleting a few of my multisites from the database taking it back to the original one and still as a multisite setup. I streamlined my htdocs folder to hold only the files required for the WP install and banished the other files that came with the download to a temp folder.

I then noticed I had two .htaccess files! One in the htdocs folder containing the proper settings for a multisite and one in the WP folder with original WP settings. Deleting the one from the WP with original settings resolved my problem.

I wanted to share this with anyone else that might encounter this problem as I did spend a bit of time on this, which I could have put to better use.

Can anyone tell me if the second .htaccess file was created in the process of adding new sites or have I been a complete numpty and managed to give myself my current headache?

It may have been accidently created before you switched WP to run in it’s own directory.
