  • convert my main site from Dreamweaver to WP to make it easier for others to update and change the mainsite

Been there. And yes, this is possible to install a WP at root even if you already have a WP in subdirectory.

You can even use the same database (backup original DB first just in case) for both WP sites as long as you change the prefix of your tables in your wp-config.php for main site. e.g. prefix in WP in subdirectory is xyz_ then you should choose a different prefix for WP tables in main site e.g. abcd_

So I actually do a complete second install of WP into the root?

Any issues that you ran into that might help me before I run into them? ??

Yes, you can do a complete second install on the root directory of your domain. It doesn’t matter if you use a separate database or just use the same database with the different table prefix.

The only issue you may run into is “you can not create a page with the name blog” on the root installation.

Backup, backup, backup ?? That way, if anything goes wrong, you can always revert to working installations.

Since you already have a subdirectory named blog, do not create a Page named “blog” in your new WP install at domain root. Otherwise something funky will happen.
