• Hi guys,

I’m new to WP, only been using it for a week but have picked it up pretty fast. I’ve set up a child template (of twentyeleven) on my site and the only thing that is causing me problems is the following…

    1) twentyeleven theme/search.php refuses to parse any new code I add to it. It saves it and displays in the editor but when it’s called by the search form none of the changes I’ve made aren’t there. It just pumps out the results (breaking my containers in the theme and also is starting the results from the very top of the page underneath the header! It’s totally ignoring where it’s being told to display.).

    2) my_child theme/search.php shows the changes but only returns “Search Results for: xxx” with no actual results or any more of the code (divs, footer etc) that should follow. The template just cuts off right under the text.

I’ve tried deleting search.php from twentyeleven and only having it in my child theme in case of conflicts and that doesn’t work.

I’ve tried leaving the search.php out of my child theme and followed the ‘create a custom search form’ tutorial here on WP (searchpage.php) but that makes no difference either.

After 5 hours of googling and getting nowhere i’m pulling my hair out!

Could somebody please put me out of my misery and tell me how to get search.php to do what’s it told or if i’m doing it the complete wrong way, slap a dunce hat on me and tell me what i’m doing wrong.

    Many thanks,

    Grant ??

It’s still a work in progress so ignore the shabbyness ??

If you perform a search you’ll see the problem that i’m having.

Doh! Should have told you what to search for right as you’ll have no idea otherwise!

    Try searching for “house”

Sorry for the multi-posting but I can’t see an “edit” button.
