I really like your plugin and before I can roll it out to our customers I need to get something explained about searching for relevancy. I have your most recent version of the plugin.

My search isn’t bringing the most relevant page up first. The 3rd Entry has the keyword in the title and 4 occurrences right next to each other.

The first 2 only have the keyword 1 time in the content page.

    Please advise,

    Randal

Is there a way to search for custom words without the or option enabled. When the or option is enabled and I search for Nature’s then the s and S are highlighted which is confusing.

Additionally, I want to find the misspellings people are searching with, that is preventing them from connecting to a result in the search page.

For example, people search for the word heartworm but they spell it heartwurm at times. I put it in as a synonym but I have to have the or option on so that gives the confusing highlights for other words like I mentioned above. So wanted to know if there is another way to accomplish the same thing but have the and option on instead? Or, is there a way to keep the or option but not show all the options like the s and S highlighted?

    Thanks,

You can use the “breakdown” option to see the scores of the posts – the first post has, for some reason, higher score. If you want titles to be more important, adjust the title weight higher.

What do you mean by “custom words”?

Synonyms require the OR operator, because adding words to an AND query makes the results narrower, not wider.

Whether you have AND or OR should make no difference to highlighting. Yes, the highlighting can be problematic – “nature’s” becomes “nature s”, which is why the s is highlighted. I haven’t found a good solution to that so far.

Thanks for the suggestions. I changed the title weight and enabled the breakdown option to see why it was ranking that way. Now the title is set to 100 and the searches are more accurate.

The custom words I am referring to are the meta keywords.

Searching for meta fields has nothing to do with highlights and the default operator – those are three different things that have little to do with each other.

By default the custom field content won’t appear in search excerpts to get highlights. If you want it to appear, you need to add it yourself. Here’s how: https://www.relevanssi.com/knowledge-base/relevanssi-excerpt-content/

Thanks for such a complete answer. I don’t need to see it in the excerpts, with the synonym function I can accomplish what I need to.
