I have PDF files going back four years. Is there a way to first, search these PDF files? TO search them and place them into a download position if matches are found.

What I am trying to do is place these PDF in position so they can be downloadable using a file manager, but also make them searchable. I realize I may have to place the ascii versions of them to be searched, but am trying to figure out how to have the matches link to the downloadable PDF version of the files too.

Anyone have any ideas on how to accomplish this?

    tx

  • Google can search most PDFs… why not just use their search? You can restrict it to your domain.

Thank you for your response. How would one set up a document that is searchable by Google and place it into a file manager that runs under workdpress? So a user could search, be notified of a match, and then go download the result?

I’ll ask this a different way and hope someone can respond.

If I were to use Google’s search function, how would I store PDF and other files under WordPress? The only file manager I have found for WordPress appears to be for admin only.

How would I store PDF files, index them, and allow Google to find them, in WordPress?

the same way you would handle anything you wanted Google to find — link to it.

You upload something to a directory, regardless of what you use to upload. Lets say the directory you upload to is called “downloads” .. link to it, somewhere, making sure the directory is browsable (doesnt require an index.html/php, and youre done.

For your purposes, you would simply link to the top most directory that wp is using for uploads.Googlebot does the rest.
