Search with in group

  • I have a BP site where I never used ‘groups’. Now, I am planning to have groups, the xprofile fields of each group are going to be different.

    I am wondering how is BP-Profile Search going to work for me.

    Is it possible to return the results from the particular group only?
    How to show only the search fields relevant to the displayed group?

    How can you have different profile fields for different groups? Are you planning to use a specific plugin?

    At this time BP Profile Search does not handle searches within groups, but that could be a new feature to explore.

    Have you ever used ‘contact form 7’? This plugin allows multiple form creations and generates a code for each form which can then be placed anywhere to show a form. Each form has a different set of values and hence can be used at a relevant location.

    Think about the ability of creating multiple “bp-profile search forms”, generate a code for each one and then show different searches for different user groups using the unique fields assigned.

    Also, there is an extension of the said plugin which can dynamically pick the value of the current post id/ user id / group id and identify the current location uniquely to show the right (assigned) form to a location.

    Just a thought, I don’t know about the technical complications. With those features why not give us a premium version?

    Hi Mairaj,

    I’m not an expert user of Contact Form 7, but if it’s able to submit custom POST data to a custom page, then it can be used to generate custom BP Profile Search forms.

    In other words if you can customize the form ‘action’ attribute and the ‘name’ attribute of each form field, I can help you write any custom BP Profile Search form.
