Search Results Specific For A State

I am using Yoast for our site but I have a narrower focus for SEO. My site is specific for the State of Louisiana. We report on young athletes from around the state. I want to improve SEO and driving traffic/geo targeting from just the state of Louisiana right now.

Any suggestions on how to do this. Should I use zip codes, is Yoast the wrong way to go about this.
