Search Results not restricted

Hello Matt,

Thankyou to you and MakeDo for making “Restricted by Role” and your other plugins available to the WordPress community.

On the site I am working on, the normal search sidebar widget is hidden for non-logged-in visitors, but if a visitor knows to add ?s to the root URL in the browser address bar, they get search results that show excerpts of pages and posts that have been restricted from Public Access. A visitor can also add a random string after the root URL which lands them on the “Oops! That page can’t be found” notice along with a search box, which also can lead to seeing results that are from pages and posts that have been marked as Public Access restricted.

The only way I have found to fix this is to mark each page or post private. Then I had to add some code to the theme functions php file that allows subscribers to view private posts and pages. I rather not have to resort to this.

I understand if restricting the search results is not in the development plans at this time, however, it does seems like a loop-hole that ought to be fixed.

If you know of any other plugins that another developer has come up with that would turn off search capability to non-logged in users, I am all ears. I have searched, and so far haven’t found such a plugin.
