Search results layout is nice. Can we use this layout for blog posts list?

  • Really like the layout of the posts displayed in the search results.
    Is there any way you can add this layout option to the theme settings blogs layout options?

    It’s so much better than the “thumbnail” option where pic is too big and there’s no easy option to get rid of the comments and categories…it’s just not great.

    How strange that the search results default layout is actually more visually appealing than many of the configurable options for the blogs layout settings.

    Any thoughts on this?

  • Hello,

    Yes, you can use it but you need to customize the theme using the child theme. Copy the index.php file into the child theme and edit the get template part to do it.

    Thanks, I tried a few things w/ no luck. Have already done alot of changes/tweaks to the default/main OceanWP theme, so don’t want to activate child theme and start with design changes all over again.

    I tried copy/pasting the code from the search.php and overwrite the index.php wit it, but here’s what I got… see screenshots below imgur link.

    1st screenshot is the search.php code used on the index.php file. Right idea, but the styling/layout is wrong.

    2nd screenshot is the default search results page layout – it’s what I’d like to have as the default style for the “blog entries” layout for front page and categories.

    Hello again:

    Is there any chance you could us help out and give example of the code we should use to make the index.php and the categories (blog layout) have the same nice appearance as the search page layout. (thumbnail o left, w/ title/excerpt on right and continue reading beneath…

    Gave it a try but not having luck with it.
