The ‘search’ function does not appear to be working for us as expected. It fails to find recently added photos. On this page Test page you will find 2 pictures presented from an album. If you search for ‘Northern Ramblers’, there is a positive result. If you search for ‘cat scales’, there is a negative result. We are not entirely sure whee this started to happen but it seems that it only happens with new photos added to an album. We have tested this on several different computers. Any assistance or advice would be greatly appreciated and welcome.

Further to my post, I forgot to note that we are using WordPress 4.7.3 and WPPA+ plugin version 6.6.17.

The maintenance of the search index database is performed at the background. New and edited photos and albums will ususally be findable in a few minutes. It may also take a few pageloads before the background processes (cron jobs) have finished.

Thanks for the quick reply. I thought that perhaps this was the root cause. The update does seem to be taking a considerable amount of time. Another example is a search for ‘1022961’. This text is in several photos on our site that were uploaded several days ago. You can see that here. Just for clarification, what do you mean by ‘pageload’?

By pageloads i mean that somebody requests a page on your site.

It should work correctly, but there always could be a problem.
To help me finding a possible issue, pls do the following:

    1. Click the button ‘Purge logfile’ in Table VIII-C1 of the Photo ALbums -> Settings admin page.
    2. Tick the box in Table IX-A9: Log Cron
    3. Do whatever you want, upload new images, edit their information or whatever. (You should preferrably at least add a few images).
    4. After approx 24 hours, send me the file .../wp-content/wppa-log.txt You can mail me at opajaap at opajaap dot nl
    5. Open Table XII and scroll down to the php settings, chapter ‘Core’, search for max_execution_time and tell me the 2 numbers on that line.

Okay, I have purged the log file and ticked the requested box. We will do some work and get back after about 24 hours.

The 2 numbers you want are 30 and 30.

    Hi Jacob,

I sent you an email with a text attachment. Please let me know if there is anything else that you require.

Thank you for the file. For the time being i know enough. There is indeed an issue. Will be investigated.

Just to be sure: you did add a photo while the logfile was recording?

    Thread Starter Gammonite

    (@gammonite)

Yes, 3 different users added several photos.

I have been reviewing the code and made some changes to be sure that on every add or edit album or photo the index will be triggered to get updated asap. It will now take 30 seconds to a few minutes; depending on page requests – there should be a few at least – and size of installation. When over 10.000 photos it may take a few more minutes.

This version (6.6.18) will be released by the end of the week. If you want to test it now, you can install the development version.
See https://wppa.nl/docs-by-subject/development-version/ for instructions. On my test sites i could reproduce the issue and saw it being fixed with the current dev version.

Thanks Jacob. We will wait for the update to be generally released. Really appreciate the attention you have given this.
