    Hello,

Thanks for your plugin. I like it a lot! I get about 4,500 searches on my site a week. I would like to log them to help with content development but have a few questions if you could please answer them:

    • Does logging the search queries take up a lot of space in the wp_relevanssi_log database table? How often should I export them? Every three months? Every six month?
    • Does this affect the website’s performance at all?

    Thank you,

    Grant

I have a site that gets about that many searches in two months, and the log table with those 4,800 searches takes up two megabytes of space – not much. You can expect to accumulate about two megabytes of logs per week, that’s likely a reasonable estimate.

Trimming the table is important because eventually, a large log table will start to slow down the searches. Right on that site of mine, the MySQL query that updates the log takes 0.003 seconds, so it’ll be a long time before the logging will start to have a noticeable effect. You can likely have millions of rows in the log table before things start to go bad.

I’d say don’t worry about it. Keeping three months of logs sounds reasonable, and I don’t think six months is a problem either.
