Search from start of column

    An amazing plugin. Thanks a lot. I am using wordpress to build a phone directory and would like user to be able to search only on last name. I figured out how to do this – works well. What I can’t seem to find is the ability to search only on the start of the column. ie – If I enter “se” as the search string, then I would like to see only the last names starting with “se…….” and not the ones that have “….se..” in the middle of the name. Is this doable?

    thanks for your question!

    Unfortunately, I don’t know if this is possible, and at the moment I doubt that it is.

    The search functionality is provided by the external DataTables JavaScript library, from https://www.datatables.net
    As I’m not the developer of that library and don’t know all the details to it, I can only recommend that you try asking there, in the forums. If they know a solution, it will probably not hard to add that to your table.

    in looking at the forum for datatables i found the following:

    it seems doable, but perhaps for me not so much. This stuff is greek to me to implement.

    Hi,

    that’s a good start already! Nice to see that you already found something.

    However, from what I can see, this might need some extra work to make this usable in a table. I’ll need some time to dig deeper into this, but I hope to be able to offer a solution in the next few days.

    Hi Corky,

    sorry for the late answer here…

    I’ve now looked at this again in more detail, but unfortunately have bad news: I can’t really find a way to add this functionality to the DataTables filtering ?? The suggested ideas in that forums thread are all either not directly working or require a huge amount of code changes, and I have no idea of how to easily add them ??
    I’m really sorry that I can’t help here. I hope that TablePress is still useful, even with the filtering not taking into account the beginning of a word.

    Thanks anyway, yes, I will be able to use it this way fine. The search in the start would have been a bit less confusing for my users, but I’m sure with a small description I can make it very usable. Thanks again for a great plugin.
