I have been using the free version of Relevanssi for about 4 years.

Sometime over the past few days, the search form stopped being displayed when a visitor clicks on the search icon, with two exceptions:
    1. It still works when I am logged into WordPress; and
    2. It still works when you click on the search icon from our Contact Us page.

Under all other circumstances, nothing happens when the user clicks on the search icon at the right edge of the main navigation.

Search still seems to work fine on my phone, so this issue is limited to desktop browsers (I’ve replicated the issue on Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Opera).

I have deactivated/reactivated Relevanssi. I also deleted and re-installed it (and then I re-built the index).

I checked the search log and saw that the search function was most recently used on December 24. I also noticed in the search log that most of the search strings from mid-November through December 24 were attempted SQL injection attacks.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,
    AH

This appears to be a problem with my site’s theme. I was able to get Search working on all pages when I changed the Search style from “site overlay” to “drop down.” I will advise the theme developer.

The site overlay search may use some AJAX searching method that bypasses Relevanssi somehow. If that’s the case, it’s easy for the theme developers to fix if they want to.
