Search Engine Question

I have not added a link to it from my website yet or from anywhere else.

How do you expect Google to find your blog then. You need to have a link to it somewhere.

You might also want to use a sitemap and use Google webmaster tools, just search the plugins here for Google sitemap and you can find plugins that will do this for you.

I don’t know. I seriously have no idea what I’m doing. However, don’t some people without websites start a wordpress blog? How do they get found by other people on the net? Is it by the google webmaster tools you mention?

Also, like I mentioned, I can find one link to my blog from google blogger but it was a deleted one. However, I can’t find a link to my newer post in July.

I just feel really lost about blogs and how to drive traffic to mine! ??

Part of good SEO is having good incoming links – meaning you have reliable websites linking to yours. You can have a link going from your website to your blog, and that would provide one way to allow the bots to crawl your blog. But you can also turn off the “Privacy” option in your installation to allow it to be indexed – if you have it set to “private” then it won’t submit things to technocrati, etc (which would also provide incoming links). Fresh content is also a good way to get rankings – you have to update *frequently* – fresh content is like a buffet for the spiders.

Good SEO ranking is a lot of work, and it’s part of marketing. If you’re serious about your rankings, then you need to get serious about leaning SEO so you can do what you need to do.

I am definitely serious about generating traffic to my site. I will continue to look for more info about driving traffic to my blog. In addition to adding a link from my website to my blog, I was thinking about linking from a Squidoo page that I already have up as well. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with me! If anyone else has any great suggestions or links to a good resource on the topic, please let me know.

An excellent resource on SEO would be Jill Whalen’s site (although she’s not big on blogs – but her other info it very good). You might try the collaborative web magazine “Vitamin” as well – there’s a ton of good articles there. Some good blogs on marketing your site: PseudoMarketing and Copy Blogger. Some good places to generate incoming links would be Digg, Stumble Upon.

That should get you started.

teecup – I agree with doodlebee, SEO is hard work but absolutely essential. The various bots are becomming even more demanding and time/history is of significant importance. Don’t expect much to happen in the first 6 months if you have a new domain name.

doodlebee – how do you set your username to become a link?

Funkster after a certain amount of time it will become a link. I believe it’s a month.
