• I have a subdirectory installation of wordpress on my site.

I accidently deployed the wordpress site with the “discourage search engines from indexing” option set.

I have since unchecked this option but for several weeks now my blog is not being indexed (the rest of my site (which is non-wordpress) is indexed fine).

If I use the Google Search Console and manually tell Google to index my blog, then it does, but after a day or two the indexing is removed.

I do not have a robots.txt. There are no “nofollow”/”noindex” tags on the blog pages.
There is one error which comes up on the search console about hentry which I will fix, but I don’t think this is the reason for my blog not being indexed.

Does anyone know why the blog is not being indexed? (I don’t think I just need to wait more because like I said, Google indexed the pages, but then removed them).

    Thanks.

  • Are you using any SEO plugins such as Yoast? If you are you should be able to change the nofollow/noindex settings on the blog posts in the edit screen.

    Hope this help.

    Not using an SEO plugin.
It’s strange, because new content on my non-wp site is indexed…only the wp site isn’t indexed.

Are you sure you checked the both the WordPress directory and the top level directory for robots.txt files?

I just double checked again now.
There’s also a robots.txt check on Google Search Console which tells me there’s no robotx.txt…

    Any other ideas?

Maybe, check your themes header.php file for noindex or nofollow code. Sometimes themes will put code it into the header for testing purposes and forget to remove it before releasing the final version.
