• I set this plugin up about a month ago, and then forgot about it. The plugin provides a lot of useful info about events and there are a lot of addons for integration with other plugins. I only tried the free version.

It was just really frustrating coming back to site, a week ago, after something broke, knowing the post but not the date of the error and not being able to search for the event. The endless scrolling broke at one point when I was going through the events and I just gave up scrolling through the logs. Opening the search tab just presented me with advertisements trying to upsell the search feature, at a time when I was already super angry.

Having the search feature behind a pay-wall is the real deal breaker here, but also there’s definitely a lot of room for UX improvements.

If you’re looking for a simpler activity log with a better UI / UX, then I’d definitely recommend Activity Log by Activity Log Team instead.

    Hello @kudoscolour

Thank you for your review and feedback.

While we have sought to make the free version of the plugin as useful as possible (as attested to by the many customers who use this plugin), some of the non-critical features are indeed premium. While we understand that this may present some inconveniences to some, we also need to make sure that the plugin’s business model is sustainable, to ensure we can continue developing and improving the plugin.

All premium features, including the search and filtering page, are clearly marked with an arrow indicating that an upgrade is required to use. We made this so that we are upfront about what is included and not included in a particular version plugin.

Even so, the free version includes some basic searching capabilities, which we discuss here – Searching in the activity log without search & filters. We also offer a 14-day free trial that gives you access to all features at no cost. We do not ask for credit card details, so you can always try it without any obligations.

All of our plugins, including the free ones, also come with email support which we handle on a daily basis. If you experience any issues whatsoever with the plugin, we are more than happy to look into it and assist with resolving it.

Thank you once again for taking the time to review the plugin. If there is anything we can help you with do not hesitate to reach out to us – here or by opening a ticket.

It looks like the article about how to use free search has been taken down. How convenient.

At this point, WP Activity Log barely qualifies for plugin directory inclusion on grounds of crippleware. Deeply disappointing.
