Hi! It’s about the third time that for no idea what reason all my search appearance settings (content types, taxonomies, etc) changed from the primary English language to the secondary Dutch language. Instead of the set English terms they display the Dutch language by default. Consequently Google indexes the wrong language for the default domain. Do you have any idea what’s going on before I re-write all English default SEO titles and Meta descriptions? It’s pretty annoying and I would love to avoid this to happen again.

    For example:

SEO title = %%title%% %%page%% %%sep%% Outsole %%sep%% Market leader in exclusive sneakers

    WPML translation = %%title%% %%page%% %%sep%% Outsole %%sep%% Marktleider in exclusieve sneakers

For whatever reason the default SEO title changed to the WPML translation too and the original set English SEO title disappeared.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello @frankoutsole

Thanks for reaching out about your translations.

Just to be clear, are you referring to how the SEO title and its translation appears in the plugin settings or the SEO title & its translation in the frontend?

    I ask because
%%title%% %%page%% %%sep%% Outsole %%sep%% Market leader in exclusive sneakers
    is in English while
%%title%% %%page%% %%sep%% Outsole %%sep%% Marktleider in exclusieve sneakers seems to be the correct translation in Dutch.

It’d be helpful if you could share your expectations versus actual results. You can also share screenshots using any image-sharing service like https://pasteboard.co/, https://snag.gy/, https://imgur.com/, https://snipboard.io/, or even upload the screenshot to your own website. Once you upload it to an image-sharing service, please share the link to the image here.

Thanks for your reply. It’s about the plugin settings in wp-admin.

A screenshot might make it even more confusing, so I’m trying to explain it well:

    • All of our plugin settings from Yoast are set in our primary English language.
    • We use WPML to translate these strings to secondary Dutch language.

This works well. No problems. However, for some crazy reason at unexpected moments ALL of our primary English settings are overwritten by the secondary Dutch language. So when I look at our settings at this moment, the settings and default meta details are Dutch. It’s impossible that these are changed by hand. So some error must have resulted that the English settings are overwritten by Dutch language.

In the screenshots you see our settings that include Dutch sentences. These should be English and it’s impossible someone adjusted them to Dutch by hand. In the string translation you can see from the icon that the string has indeed been adjusted.

Have you ever seen such thing before? It happened like three times now in about two years. We switched from theme in meanwhile, so that can’t be the issue.

Hello @frankoutsole, thanks for your patience while we investigated the issue.

The issue could occur if you recently switched the default language in WPML or due to corrupt .po or .mo files.

Can you confirm if you have installed the WPML SEO plugin? You can also try to switch back the source language of the strings back to English or their preferred language by following this guide:?https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/string-translation/how-to-change-the-source-language-of-strings/

Do let us know how it goes.

Thanks for your reply. I do have the SEO plugin. I’ve translated it all back to English. If it happens a next time I will definitely use your advice. Thanks!
