Am I alone in seeing scroll bars in the posts on this site?

    Anon,
Well, I seem to be getting scrollbars just fine on IE5.2/Mac…

I am just guessing but obviously Matt is well in front of us and may have used a hack eg Peter-Paul Kochs. Incidentally scrollbars seem to have become fashionable overnight. Now I am seeing them everywhere.

This takes us back to somewhere near where we gotten started sometime ago.
A blog obviously needs a vertical nav bar because it has a lot of links. The content is generally a lot of text. Now: How wide do we think that content area should be as an *optimum*. And what is the point of voluntarily giving up width
by fixing our widths so we can show off fancy backgrounds and not even using the width that we have got? And two: If we need pre, block, code and uris to go in the blog which we clearly do then as a minimum can the php be fixed so that the relevant text at least always line breaks before it gets started?
Last thought. Some guys have being trying to point out for a while that good design involves rather more than css validation.

code should not be too difficult. Generally the line length is pretty short. Your fix on URIs is fine. How do we stop people putting them in comments though?

as i said earlier, have a routine that checks for urls, parse them and break the descriptive part by adding a br tag at charcount x
of course you need to leave the ahref=”…” untouched.
easy (see e107.org for a working example, they use it in their chatbox, write a very long sentence there without any spaces and see what happens.)
