• I thought this would be very simple but for whatever reason it is not.

I have Caldera Forms installed and have built a simple and short form in it.
Made a new popup added the Caldera Form to it.
Went to the popup settings and clicked Triggers. Expected a bunch of options here but upon clicking Add New Trigger the option to Click to Open or Time Delay/Auto Open where the only ones to choose from.

I would like the user to scroll partways down the page and then softly have the form modul open up with a fade in. Popups can be very intruse and in your face and I need to make this as soft as possible. Having a scroll 500px down the page before it opens would be nice. I have no idea where the scroll trigger has hidden itself, and need some help to find it.

    Thanks.

@paaljoachim – Sorry for the delay, our new support team has been getting up to speed and has missed a few. Would like to invite you to submit a ticket via https://wppopupmaker.com/support/ to get a quicker response.

That said only time delay and click triggers are included for free. I mean we gotta keep something back or we wouldn’t be able to keep up supporting and updating the plugin ;p

So the scroll trigger didn’t hide itself, it requires one of our extensions to activate that functionality. This has always been the case though so I’m not sure what caused the initial confusion.

Our scroll trigger extension offers that and a bit more, you can even drop in a popup trigger point shortcode on the page to tell the popup where it should open.

    Hope that helps.

    Hey Daniel

Without some options in the scroll trigger the free WP repo version does not bring enough value with it as I experienced it. I look at it this way. Build a strong free version and people to enjoy and use the product and then they will also begin to look at the premium offerings as well. Kinda like going to the market. Try something and like it and want more. I tried something and found it a bit lacking, so I did not want more. I tried something else that tasted better.

Btw I am glad to see your doing well with the plugin! Have a great continued success..:)

@paaljoachim – Appreciate the kind words and sorry to hear that.

Statistically from 3 different plugins that offer scroll functionality, it is the least used, and lowest converting. Popup Maker was the culmination of 5 years running Easy Modal. I took everything I learned, all the limitations, all the things people asked for and built the ultimate tool in Popup Maker.

I gave away the features that 98% of our user base needed. Most need to open it immediately or with a delay, the rest needed to open it based on clicking menu items or the like.

I then added the most powerful targeting available (without being FB, GGL or APL), tight integrations with the most popular form plugins, an infinitely flexible API that can bend these overlays to do just about anything, all for free.

On top of that I’ve answered ~30k tickets over the past 5 years for this plugin alone, mostly for free users.

We have to hold something back or I couldn’t possibly do such going forward, or hire anybody to help, or build any other cool products etc.

It’s because we offer the best free features, and of course because we love feedback and interacting with our users, that we have grown the way we have.

I wonder though is this something you really think must be in the free version still or is it something that you needed and we simply didn’t offer for free (I can sympathize).

Thought experiment: If you needed exit intent, would you then say we need to add some exit intent options to the free version for it to have any value? In which case at which point would any feature be deemed acceptable to hold back for a premium version?

Appreciate the feedback either way, send me a follow up via our support form if you like, happy to give you a one time discount, as I suspect the real issue is that you love all the things we offer and are just weighing the value of that particular functionality.

Let me try to justify it for you though:

    1. Took me 2 weeks to get what seems like simple functionality worked out perfectly. To clarify we offer a variety of scroll trigger options. Making a scroll trigger that triggers at 100px is simple, making one that triggers at any number of possible user defined trigger points is more complex.
    2. If you hard coded a quick and dirty custom from scratch popup to do it, you might waste 1-4 hours, if you hired a developer who could do it in 1, you likely spent $100 already and didn’t get any updates or support.
    3. You are getting scroll triggers + targeting + form integrations + … + … + …

Our cost for that is much cheaper when you break it down.

Hope that helps. If your issue is resolved please take a moment to rate and review the plugin or support.
