    Dear Jetpack,

First of: Thanks for an awesome plugin. I use it a lot for many of my blogs.

I have recently encountered an issue when I started using “Scroll Infinitely” on the blog https://www.leckileaks.dk . On the 15th post, the Facebook share button does not display the amount of share nor does the Facebook share button on the following posts. The pagination/scrolling is set to 7, so my best guess is that there is some issue in relation to 2 x scroll and update of the social buttons.

I hope that you can help

    Best regards

    Alex

Is that the 15th post? Facebook’s sharing counts seem to be working properly on my end:

Did you manage to fix the issue by yourself?

By the way, I have to congratulate you for all these great gifs! ?? Infinite Scroll is definitely useful on your site! ??

    Hi Jeremy,

I can see that the feature has moved to a later post. Currently, the FB counter doesn’t show at post #23, which makes no sense in relation to multipli of 7. Hpmf. Maybe I was guessing the wrong place. However, the error still seems reproducable eventhough the number seems more random.

I cannot take credit for the blog. It is a good friend of mine. She has some issues with hearing and tries to write about it. The animated GIFs are often reactions to her questions in the heading. E.g. the current newest post “Da jeg gennemgik lejekontrakten til min nye residens i Amerika” is roughly translated “When I went through new leasing contract for my new American residence”.

    Best regards

I was able to reproduce! It seems fairly random, doesn’t always happen, and doesn’t trigger any Javascript errors.

The sharing counts are actually returned by Facebook’s API, but don’t get appended to the post:

I’m not sure what’s causing this, but I’ll ask one of my colleagues from the team in charge of the buttons to take a look.

I’ll get back to you as soon as I have some news.

Could you let me know if the problem remains if you switch to one of the default themes, like Twenty Fifteen, for a few minutes?

    Thanks!

    Hi Jeremy,

I used an updated Twenty Fifteen Theme. The same thing happened.

Could you let me know what other plugins are currently active on your site, so I can try to reproduce your environment and the issue on a test site of mine?

    Thanks!

I tried installing these plugins on my own site, alongside Twenty Fifteen, but I couldn’t reproduce the issue I’m afraid. I don’t have shares for all my posts though, so it’s hard to reproduce.

I looked into it a bit more, and this time found that Facebook’s API didn’t return any count for the post that didn’t display any sharing counts:
    https://i.wpne.ws/dx5D

Since this seems to happen both on Infinite Scroll’s end and on Facebook’s end, I’m not exactly sure where to go from here.

Could you try to deactivate Jetpack’s Infinite Scroll module, and let me know if you continue to experience issues?

    Thanks!

    Hi Jeremy,

I tried to disable the infinity scroll and get a small difference in the amount of images that show the FB count, however it is very small. With infinity count, there are two FB number images which are missing when comparing to using infinity count. Maybe I am seeing ghosts, but subjectively it seems that there are less errors after the new WordPress update. I have not actual empiric data or measurements to support this.

    Any ideas?

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for helping

Could you try switching to the official button style, under Settings > Sharing in your dashboard? It will use the default Facebook Share icon, and the data will be pulled inside the button’s iFrame instead of relying on a call to Facebook’s API.

Let me know if it changes anything.
