• HI Folks,
Really need some help. My site https://www.digitalsole.info is working fine but I have an ongoing error which I need to resolve. When I got to write a new post, the page loads but I get a script error just before the formatting toolbars load.
This causes the page to hang in Firefox and in Ie it goes not-responding and crashes.
I have upgraded to 2.3.1 and this does not resolve the problem. Is there a debugging tool or any files that I should replace. I have installed another copy onto a subdirectory of the same server and everything is fine on that install so I dont see an issue with the server.

Any help would be really appreciated

Anyone..i have reinstalled the whole thing, disabled plugins and all themes and am totally lost.. Could a post or an image file cause this?

Does anyone know what scripts run during the new post process.
    Someone help…please!!!!

I’ve deleted the database and reinstalled WP2.3.1…works fine.

Imported the SQL file into the database and error returns..so its seems to be a database problem.

Is there anyway of finding whats causing this problem. Tried using a different database name but still comes back..so it has to be a problem in the database

When i emptied wp_postmeta in the database this resolved the problem..just not sure what this has done but it works

lost all the podpress media files on all my pages..talking to myself here but someone might find it useful ??
start again..but definitely an issue with wp_postmeta

The first step of troubleshooting should always be deactivating all the plugins and see if the error disappears. If yes, then activate your plugins one by one.

I hope you made a backup of your DB before messing with the tables…

yep..have it restored now. Loose all my podpress media on pages when i clear wp_postmeta. This is the only thing that resolves it. Deactivating plugins/themes (including Podpress) etc does nothing. Seems to be an issue with wp_postmeta as it works fine when empty but i have no idea how to fins out whats causing it. Cant find errors in the table but not good with DB’s

    Quote from your OP:
“but I get a script error”
That says nothing. Without detailed information nobody can even guess…

    (@dsole)

yes the problem is there is no detailed info.

This is all i get pic

That IS detailed info… You should have started with this instead of mysterious ‘script error’.

Whenever I saw this it was due to a plugin or a theme with its own functions.php file (with wrong or incompatible code in it).

With ALL the plugins deactivated and switching to the default or classic – is the error stil there?

    Thread Starter dsole

    (@dsole)

yep…have deleted and reinstalled WP with nothing in it. With database restored the only thing that resolves the issue is deleting wp_postmeta in the database..but this gets rid of info on these pages for example
    https://www.digitalsole.info/?page_id=77
    https://www.digitalsole.info/?page_id=289

so i thought it might be a podpress issue..so deactivated and restored wp_postmeta but same issue.

Have tried with no plugins or themes but it seems deleting wp_postmeta is the only way the script error goes..but then so does all the info.

You can NOT delete arbitrarily tables from the database. That is not a solution!

    (@dsole)

It was emptied, not deleted. sorry should choose my phrasing better but its not the real solution anyway as I loose info on pages listed above. So no, not the solution
I’m lost anyway..have been trying to sort this for weeks so might just have to start again as I want multiple authors and this is just crashing peoples browsers.
