• Help! I attempted to upgrade https://www.famousplastic.com from WordPress 2.3.2 to 2.7 and now I can no longer access the admin panel. When I completed the upgrade I received a fatal error, so I immediately re-uploaded the files from 2.3.2 that I had backed up. The site works fine (you can browse normally, leave comments, etc), but I can’t access admin:

    https://famousplastic.com/wp-admin/

It just redirects to the index.

Oddly, earlier today, I was able to access the login page, reset the password, logged in and then it just dropped me off at the index page. Now I can’t even access the login (nothing has changed from when I was able to briefly access the login page). I”m super confused. Any suggestions?!

  • did you make a database backup before you did the upgrade?

if so, you could use phpmyadmin (or whatever) to restore that, you may have a data-base half-way through the 2.3 to 2.7 update.

After putting 2.7 on, did you go to wp-admin and get the
“you need to update your database” message?

Did you press the button to do that?

If not, your update uh, “didn’t”

when doing an update that is this big a jump, I always suggest pretty much deleting the 2.3 install, rather than doing the 2.7 over the top and then put the 2.7 files in, get the database update done, then re-install your plugins.

(of course, you don’t delete your upload or media folders…..)

Anyway, basically, you’re likely to need to “try again.”

Thanks for the advice. I do have a database backup, but I’m afraid to “restore” it since the database is working fine. When I upgraded to 2.7, I did not get a “you need to upgrade your database message” because after I upgraded the entire site was completely nonfunctional (I wish I remembered the error message, but I know it didn’t say anything about the database. Something about an error on line whatever). I immediately re-uploaded the backed up files (but not the database) and now the site is fine, except for the fact that I can’t access the admin area.

So you think I should delete everything (except wp-content and images) and try 2.7 again?

Here are a couple of videos I just finished on upgrading to 2.7…you may not use the exact same process, but they may give you some ideas about how to proceed.

It ended up being a problem with permissions on the wp-admin directory. They must have been reset when I re-uploaded my backed up files. Thanks for the help any ways!
