Ever since I upgraded to version 5.0.5 the scheduler doesn’t seem to be working. I noticed error messages in my log, but unfortunately I deleted it. This is when I had it scheduled to run daily. I now set it to run hourly, and though I don’t see error messages, nothing is reflected in the log. When I run it manually it seems to run just fine. I’m using WP version 5.8.

EDIT: By the way, when the scheduler is set to run hourly, does it run at the top of each hour?

EDIT again: I just realized that I upgraded to WP 5.8 around the same time that I updated to WP-Optimize 5.0.5. It’s possible there’s a conflict with WP 5.8.

    Hey boybawang,

First try to re-install my plugin (I tested 5.8 weeks ago).

    Keep me posted!

    Hello @cageehv

Thanks for the quick response, and your suggestion!

I uninstalled/reinstalled the plugin. Manually it worked ok, but the scheduler still has problems. I was able to capture the error it provided me.

EDIT: Do you have an email address I could send the log to? When I paste it in this editor, the backticks are interpreted as the code tag.

By chance, is there a function that I can call from a hook that will run the optimizer?

    Hey @boybawang,

I just released v5.0.6 of my plugin.

    It fixes the scheduler bug.

    Thanks for the feedback!

    Hey @cageehv

Thanks for the update! Unfortunatel I can’t tell if it’s working. I have “Keep a log” selected, and after it ran (supposedly), there was no log record written. Also, the “Last run” time didn’t update. I noticed the “Next scheduled run:” did reset, but it doesn’t appear as though anything was done. FYI, I have the scheduler set to do hourly optimizations for the sake of testing this.

    Thanks!

    Hey @boybawang,

I tested the same settings ‘Keep a log’ and ‘Hourly’ and it works fine for me.

Maybe the issue is that someone has to visit your site to trigger the WP scheduler.

So you can go to your own website and reload a random page to start the scheduler.

    Keep me posted!

    Hey @cageehv

I’m aware of how wp cron works, but I do get a lot of traffic, so I’m not sure why the first hour it didn’t work, since it should’ve been triggered. There are now two log entries from the scheduled cleanup, however I noticed that the DB size before and after were the exact same, resulting in a savings of 0. I thought that was strange, so I manually ran the optimizer immediately after the scheduled cleanup ran, and the savings was ~64KB. So something strange is going on with the scheduler.

    Hey @boybawang,

Ok, I see what you mean…
Did it work well with v5.0.4 and lower?

Is it just the ‘saved’ counter that isn’t updated?

I’ll create some revisions and see if they are gone after the scheduler ran.

    Hey @cageehv

I just reinstalled version 5.0.4, and the scheduler ran the optimizer just fine!

I’m not exactly sure what you mean by the ‘saved’ counter. Can you elaborate?

    Hey Pete,

I reverted the plugin back to v5.0.4 and released it as v5.0.7…
v5.0.5 and v5.0.6 caused too problems)
