Scheduled Optimization – Folders to Optimize

a url is not the same thing as a filesystem path. See the example directly above the Folders to Optimize setting that shows the path to your wordpress install. You should NOT use this function for media library images. They are automatically optimized on upload, and the Bulk Optimize function will take care of any previously uploaded images. The Scheduled Optimization AND the Folders to Optimize setting are solely for use with images outside of the Media Library.

Hi nosilver4u. This is clearer now, thanks. So I can’t use scheduled optimization for folders outside the media library.

I’ve tried doing the Bulk Optimize function for the media library and am running into some issues with it. I wanted to leave it to optimize and not have to monitor. However sometimes when I check, it stops in the middle and says something like “Operation interrupted” in red text. Or it hangs on one image and doesn’t continue anymore.

It also starts from the beginning instead of starting off where it left. I know it doesn’t optimize again the already optimized images but there’s still a bit of lag when it checks the files at the start until it gets to the last optimized image. And that gets longer the more it progresses through the library.

If there’s a better way of doing it, or I’m doing it wrong, I would love to be taught how to do it right. Thanks!

Sounds like you’re doing it right, but seeing as how the cloud service was broken, it was probably giving you some fits. Normally, it should let you resume right where you left off, without having to re-check all the previous images, but if the cloud verification doesn’t work, then it can break in unexpected ways.

And just to be clear, the Scheduled Optimize IS for images OUTSIDE of the media library. I think that’s what you meant, but you might have just said it wrong.

Tried it and it still starts from the start. This is what it says for a typical image that was already optimized before, and I don’t think it’s optimizing it again.

Hmm, browse away from the page, and then come back and see what happens.

This is what the Bulk Optimize section says when I browse away from the page. I’ll have to click the Reset Status button to be able to Bulk Optimize, which I think is what causes it to start from the start.

Hmm, that’s not right, there should be a Resume button, but for some reason it seems to be flushing the option for the attachments remaining. Strange… I’ll see if I can find a way to replicate it at all.

are you using the cloud-only version of the plugin, or the normal/original one that is cloud-enabled?

Can you check your wp_options table and see if there is anything for these two values:

ewww_image_optimizer_bulk_attachments
ewww_image_optimizer_bulk_resume

I’m using the cloud-only version of the plugin. I’ll respond to the other question later as I’m in meetings now.

If it helps, if I click on the Stop Optimizing button, it will say reload to resume. But it won’t. When I reload (I’m using Safari) it will ask me if I’m sure that I wanna enter a form again.

I was just noticing that odd quirk myself. If you’ve just click the ‘reset’ button, and then started over, then you stop optimizing, and try to reload, your browser will be essentially trying to redo the ‘reset’ operation. In this case, what you actually want to do is just click on Bulk Optimize again in the menu. See if that makes any difference. Going to bed now, but I’ll check in on this in the morning.

No difference for me. If it’s in progress and I click on Bulk Optimize, it’s the same behavior as me reloading.

The very first time I did it, and it told me to reload to resume, I didn’t do a reload but went to another page. Maybe it’s doing it the same way I did it the first time.

Same behaviour in Firefox. Tried another blog user in Chrome and same behaviour too. I noticed that the first time I logged in those browsers it asked me to reset status. I think because of previously cancelled bulk optimize efforts.

Can you start a bulk, leave it running, and check those options in the table that I mentioned? Then stop it, or navigate away from the page (should have the same behavior), and then check what values those options have again?

It almost sounds like the ‘resume’ option is working, but the attachments list is getting cleared (or corrupted). Those are both stored in the database, and updated each time an image finishes optimizing during the bulk operation.
