    Hi,

Currently, my backups are scheduled for once every 2 hours. Sometimes it works fine but sometimes the backups don’t start until I log in as the administrator on my site. Are there any restrictions on when the scheduler operates?

I tried on my main server as well as another server and subdomain on that server (3 different WordPress sites). The behavior is the same (works for a while, then stops, and then starts again after I log in as admin).

Any ideas on what might be going wrong?

    Thanks,

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

Please could you send us a copy of the latest full backup log?
This can be found in the UpdraftPlus Existing Backups tab.
Please can use an online service such as Dropbox or Pastebin, and post the link here.

    Regards,
    Bryle

    Hi Bryle,

I just restored a clone of a WordPress site on top of my server to see if the problem continue. I want to wait to make sure the behavior continues with my newly installed site before posting the log so as to make sure I’m not creating new problems… I’ll post once enough time has passed so that the log is picking up the server’s new activity.

    Thanks,

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

From the log, it shows that the backup has successfully completed and have run automatically as scheduled.

    Hi,

Yes, I think the last one might have run but it stopped for around 10-12 hours at least. They are scheduled to run every 2 hours.

Is there a reason they might stop?

    Thanks,

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

    Apologies for the late reply.

I believe your server gets overloaded. You may have a busy website and backing up every 2 hours would also use your server resource. You may have to increase your server resources in that case.

That makes sense but these servers are actually not really used much at all. They are 3 different instances of WordPress sites running on DigitalOcean. I’m the only one that uses them and no services are running in the background (besides the backup).

Oddly, the backups seems to start once I log in and do some activity but if I don’t do anything (and CPU show minimal activity), no backup is done. So if seems like the backups actually correlates with the activity.

Any other ideas on what might be going on? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

    Apologies for the delay.

Are you able to successfully backup the website if you choose to run only 1 backup per day?

Not sure. I just changed the frequency to daily and will let you know how it goes.

I changed the frequency to daily and strangely, the backups still appear every 2 hours for a few backups and then stop (like before).

Not really sure what’s going on.

For example, yesterday, I show backups around 2:30pm, 4:30pm. 6:30pm, 8:30pm and 10:30pm. Today, backups occurred at 12:30pm, 2:30pm 4:30pm and 6:30pm. No other times.

So while they aren’t every 2 hours for the entire day, they also aren’t daily.

It’s not a huge deal other than I have to remember to delete the backups so they don’t chew up too much disk space.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

    Apologies for the late reply.

I think something is causing conflict with UpdraftPlus. Are you able to test it on a different site and see if you get the same issue? or create a testing site, deactivate all plugins and see if the schedule works as expected?

Another thing you could try is to wipeout settings. This can be used to removed locks and corrupted settings that were from previous UpdraftPlus version. To do this go to UpdraftPlus > Advanced tools > Wipe Settings, Click the Wipe settings button.

    Hi,

The same thing happens on 2 other instances. But then again… these 2 instances are all clones of my main dev server so I might have just copied over the problem.

I can’t deactivate all my plugins now but I will try to wipe out the settings and see how that goes.

    Thanks.
