I have scheduled backups, and last night’s backup ran many many times (see log below),resulting in all the old backups being deleted. (v2.0.1)

  • did you have installed W3 total chache ?

Same issue with me. And I have WP Total Cache installed (not W3).

Yes, I’ve got W3 Total Cache.

Gabe, BackpWPup is not compatible with W3 Total Cache. It has something to do with W3 Total Cache’s caching of the cron jobs.

Strange, I’ve never had this problem before upgrading to 2.x of BackWPUp – I’ve been using both together for quite a while now.

@gabe, I also used W3 Total Cache and version 1.7? of BackWPup happily for some time. Then I think the last upgrade of W3 Total Cache caused an incompatibility and made BackWPup perform multiple backups.

Perhaps you too only upgraded W3 Total Cache recently?

I worked with Daniel to nail down what the multiple backup problem was and I believe he traced it to W3 Total Cache’s caching of the cron system.

I also believe that there is nothing more Daniel can do about it until something changes in W3 Total Cache. Daniel told me that other people/developers have similar problems with W3 Total Cache’s cron management.

Having said all of that there are people who have posted on here about multiple backup problems, but they say that they don’t use W3 Total Cache.

So perhaps you have a problem that isn’t linked to W3 Total Cache?

I had this exact same problem back in version 1.7.x.

The cause was a badly defined time schedule. You have to define EVERY time variable, not just the ones that you’d logically need to use.

For example, if you want to schedule a backup every day, you also have to define the hours and minutes values, not just the date values.

Don’t leave the minutes and hours values set to Any(*).

    Hope this helps.

P.S. Version 2.0.2 still broken in my WP 3.2 ??
    I think I’ll downgrade to 1.7.x

    (@gabrielwhite)

I just downgraded to the patched 1.7.8, and I’m not getting the same problem (and W3 Total Cache is still running).

    So I think it’s a bug in BackWPUp 2.x.

    Gabe

That’s odd @gabe. I’m running 1.78 with W3 Total cache and I get multiple backups 4 out of 7 days.

Perhaps you’ve just been lucky. I had 4 backups last night but the day before I only had one. Can you keep an eye on that and if you’re still only getting one backup in a week, can you post back. I’m sure that’d be important new information for Daniel.

    Thanks,
    Dan.

@dannygoodall – Will monitor the situation over the next few days…

the only solution taht should wor i heard from is call WP-cron.php from hosters cron job or from a internet cron service and check under settings in Backwpup the use hosters cron check box. that you can test…
