I’ve been using WP-Optimize for a long time. But there is still a problem with scheduled runs. It doesn’t work.

On all my seven of my sites, I see this.

Last scheduled optimization was at: September 14, 2017 9:12 pm

It never runs on schedule. I always need to do it manually.

Is there something I am missing here? As you can see, I have been patient for two years!

  • I have five websites that run the latest (free) version of WP-Optimize, in every case the “Last scheduled optimization was at: February xx, 2018.” It seems very suspicious that they have all stopped together. Maybe they want us to upgrade to the pro version?

Maybe. I’ve got the pro version of Updraft from the same developer, and the scheduling works fine. So it is not a cron problem. I am hesitant to change plugins, but having to remember to do seven sites manually is a real pain.

I too have UpdraftPlus ‘Pro’ and that works fine every single day. I also use WP Rocket and that optimises the database everyday without issue. If I thought WP-Optimize Premium would actually work I might upgrade, but with this scheduling not working in 100% of instances for more than a year I feel disinclined to risk it.

Do any cron events work on your site? If you install WP-Crontrol and visit the list of cron events, what does it show? Is WP-O’s event in the list? Are there lots of overdue ones?

This is my least favourite bit of writing software; people who think it’s acceptable behaviour to be directly insulting the first time they speak to you, whilst also wanting free support for a free product at the same time. Please don’t do it.

    Hi David,

I have SNAP running on my sites and it works fine with cron events. Never a problem.

    But I haven’t run WP-Crontrol. I’ll try.

I checked Crontrol on one of my sites, and this is the only mention of WP-Optimize

    wpo_plugin_cron_tasks None
    WP_Optimize->do_plugin_cron_tasks()
    2019-02-09 06:26:01 (11 hours 41 minutes) Twice Daily

There are no errors for any cron tasks.

    Hi @bobsled

Can you try a couple of things please ? Can you switch to using a cron from the OS instead, its likely some distribution of linux if Im right.

    https://www.siteground.com/tutorials/wordpress/real-cron-job/

Can you check your error logs for any messages during when the cron is triggered please ?

I am not going to play around with it. All cron jobs are working for me on all other actions. I use UpdraftPlus from the same developer, and it works on schedule perfectly.

So I think I’ll leave it up to Wp-Optimize to sort this bug out.

I’ll use it manually until then.

    Hi,

It is possible that the optimisations are running into an error.

Please could you ask your hosts/server admin if they can check the PHP error logs for any fatal errors?

I’m sorry, but I really don’t have the time to invest in this issue.

As I said, I use UpdraftPlus from the same developer, and it works perfectly on schedule. So there is no problem on my side.

I don’t see why I should be asked to waste my time, and my host’s time, on this problem.
