    Hi there, when I installed WordFence everything worked fine – when I upgraded everything stopped working. (Maybe not due to the upgrade, but timing) It’s constanly getting stuck on scans at “Comparing core WordPress files against originals in repository” and I can’t see any Live Updates anymore – the wheels just keep spinning over and over.

    Have I done something in the settings for this to start happening?

    Same here. Any progress on this?

    It is supposed to be working constantly (24 /7) scans live to auto protect, isn’t that its purpose?

    It wasn’t working consistently – it was getting stuck on one part of the scan.

    I had to turn off Live Updates since I am working with W3 Total Cache, I don’t know why – but they were clashing. I also reset the scan configurations to the default values.

    It’s working fine now.

    Sorry I lied, it should not be running in a permanent manner, here is the sheet from the developer addressing the issue…

    I wish the developers would address this instead of it being in limbo for MONTHS.

    Similar issue with a site running WP 3.6.1 – plugin version 3.8.3
    New install on that site, not plugin update.

    Scan gets stuck at “Scanned contents of (e.g.) 287 additional files at … per second”
    Have to force kill to end scan

    Wonder if this is a blank additional line at end of file issue?

    Also noted ajax/cron error in server error logs (500 type error)

    and several server 500 errors for /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php

    Partially resolved the scan not completing issue
    Found some information on the plugin forum that AskApache caused problems.
    I had this plugin installed, but not activated. Deleted it, and added htaccess rule for /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php – allow from all (Not an ideal solution)

    Scan now completes when run manually. That’s good enough for me. Still getting the mentioned PHP Warnings in error logs – but I can live with that – WordFence is doing it’s job protecting the site.

    There seems to be a problem with that article instructions as written as this line:

    “Set the “Maximum execution time for each scan stage” to about 80% of that value. So if it’s 90, try setting the option to 75.”

    I’ve set the time to 15 seconds.
    My options page DOES NOT contain an option labeled: ““Maximum execution time for each scan stage” “

    There is a “max_execution_time” but that’s clearly not the same.

    My scans will not complete, either. I have the latest WordPress version and plugin version installed and activated.

    Except one time, every SCAN stalls at about 2200-2400 files and 25-35 MB data analyzed.

    I checked the server error-log in the CPANEL as instructed by my host’s Tech Support. It was empty. I checked the php error-log in root directory. No entries in eleven days since the site was created.

    One time it completed when I iteratively increased the Options “Maximum memory Wordfence can use” from 256 to 384 MB. It’s still on 384 MB now but the scans won;t complete.
    I did set the “Maximum execution time for each scan stage” to 15 secs too.

    Where should I upload or submit the server error-log files?
