Whenever I try running a scan our clients website, we get the the following error; “Scan terminated with error: Unable to query database

The database connection seems to be fine for the rest of the site, and the content scan seems to be fine (“Done file contents scan’). I’ve checked the Scan Help page but I can’t seem to find anything specifically for the scan being unable to query the database.

I’ve just sent a Diagnostic Report by email to [email protected] with the Forum Username as Eurisko (@eurisko)

Thanks for sending over your diagnostic @eurisko, I’ve just taken a look.

Generally, connectivity and database permissions seem fine, but I do see a case from the past of this message appearing when MySQLi was the issue. In that case, a Wordfence table was also missing, but yours are all there.

The last 20 lines of the scan log would be helpful to us to determine what was happening immediately before the error:

    • Stop any existing scan if it is still running (The “Start New Scan” button turns into a “Stop” button while the scan is running).
    • Go to the Tools > Diagnostics page.
    • In the “Debugging Options” section, if “Start scan remotely” is checked, now uncheck this option.
    • Check the circle “Enable debugging mode
    • Click to “Save Changes”.
    • Start a new scan on the Scan page.
    • If the scan fails again, copy the last 20 lines or so from the Log (click the “Show Log” link) once the scan finishes and paste them in your next reply.

    Thanks,
    Peter.

    Thank you Peter.

We are having some issues with the site’s Input/Output Usage causing requests to the site to timeout. It’s possible that this is also causing the scanning errors, but I’ve contacted our hosting provider about the issue.

When we resolve the IO error, I’ll change the recommended settings and run another scan.

Thanks for letting us know @eurisko, I have seen timeouts causing issues with scans that weren’t reflected in diagnostics due to their intermittent nature. Hopefully a resolution there will be the key.

I will leave the topic open to allow further responses in the coming days if you continue to experience the problem.

    Many thanks,
    Peter.
