I look after several WP sites with WordFence installed, active and generally working. However, the Scan settings keep getting reset to ‘Limited Scan’ and all ‘Performance Options’ get reset.

I can update these settings and run a scan using the saved/updated settings, but when I go back into settings a few days later they have been reset again.

    This is the environment: WordFennce 7.4.0 | WordPress 5.2.3 | PHP 7.2.19 | Apache/2.4.39 (Unix) | MySQL 10.1.24-MariaDB

Any assistance on this would be appreciated

  • Hey @nkalistair,

Can you try clearing all site and server cache before setting the settings?

If that doesn’t help, can you please reset Wordfence? I’d also clear all site and server cache before reinstalling it.

    https://www.wordfence.com/help/advanced/remove-or-reset/#remove-or-reset

Please give this a try and let me know how it goes.

    Thanks,

    Hi Gerroald,

    Thanks for the reply ??

I spent an hour going through the posts here (because the search didn’t yield any results) and found some others with the same issues and the common factor is that they and I are on 123-reg hosting. Therefore I suspect that they are still resetting the WordFence settings. Do you know if that was ever resolved with 123-reg?

I tried in the past to clear all cache and even removed and reset WordFence with no success – the settings get saved and I can log out, shut browser down, clear browser cache and then log back in and the settings are correct – but the next day they have been reset back to limited.

    Hey @nkalistair,

    Thanks for the update.

I believe this is due to 123-reg monitoring and adjusting the resources allotted to the site. I’ve seen other users comment that 123-reg has stated they kill scans longer than three minutes. Unfortunately, there isn’t a lot we can do from our side. They have control of the server and can adjust the resources as they see fit. Our developers have reached out to them about this and I’ll touch base with them to see if they’ve heard back.

In the meantime, this may or may not help, setting the time limit lower will be useful – 15-20 seconds might be a little too low depending on the site is, but no more than 80% of the max_execution_time.

    Thanks,

    Hi @wfgerald

Thanks for the tip – I’ve set the time limit to 24 seconds (max is 30) and ran a manual scan with the overall time limit left at 180 (set by 123-reg) and the scan ran in 2 mins 29 sec, so that looked promising – however 123 have reset the settings again overnight to run a limited scan , interestingly the set both times to 180.

    Thanks for your help

    Hey @nkalistair,

The best thing to do might be to reach out to 123-Reg to see if there’s a way to keep your resource settings.

Please let me know what they say.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald

    Hey @nkalistair,

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’ve gone ahead and marked this thread as resolved.

Please feel free to open another thread if you’re still having issues with Wordfence.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald
