Scan don’t ever finishes

  • Hi,

    As said in the title, the scan never finishes. I have used some answers to this problemes as described here : https://docs.wordfence.com/en/My_scans_don%27t_finish._What_would_cause_that%3F?
    But I did not get this to work properly with those techniques.

  • Same problem here, but with the /stats folder (the weight of the files are similar). That’s not a problem of configuration of 1 site. I have more than 50 with WordFence and today the scan is failing in a lot of them :C

    I have another site with Wordfence that does work. I exported the same settings in my new site : impossible to ever finish a scan.

    Are you saying that didn’t work?

    I have around 20 sites and it broke “only” 2 of them.
    Those 2 had Polylang installed and when a Wordfence Scan started, it never finished and the site became unavailable.

    According to the amount of new topics recently, I assume that the newest Wordfence version has problems with many plugins and/or themes, but thats just my theory for now.

    If you have a scan running at the moment, then please kill it then make sure you have enabled the debugging mode from (Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics > “Enable debugging mode”) and start a new scan, when it stops, click on “Email activity log” link and email it to “alaa [at] wordfence [dot] com”, also you can send a diagnostics report email from (Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics => Send Report by Email) to the same email address, I’ll take a look at these reports and let you know my findings.

    Thanks, i just did that (activity log + report) !

    @soairotel so, scans don’t throw any error? they just get stalled at “Scanned contents of xyz additional files”?

    Please increase the “WP_MEMORY_LIMIT” value to something like “256M”, also make sure you set “How much memory should Wordfence request when scanning” to the same value.

    Another thing to try is to disable other installed plugins -temporarily- and run a new scan after that.

    Hi @wfalaa,
    Thank you for your answer !

    That was it, no error, just stucked at “Scanned contents of xyz additional files”.
    I just applied some of the tips you gave me (increase memory + desactivate plugins).
    I now get the error message “Scan process ended after forking”.

    I did consult my .htaccess file but don’t seem to see any blocked access.

    @soairotel Please make sure you have enabled “Debug Mode” from (Wordfence > Tools => Diagnostics) before running a scan, by this way you will figure out at which file the scan hangs, after running a couple of scans, let me know if the scan hangs at the same file or not.

    Hi @wfalaa,
    The scans hang not at the same file. It stops at a different file each time (but everytime during those 2 steps : Scanning file contents for infections and vulnerabilities and Scanning files for URLs on a domain blacklist).
