• Hello
I have an issue using w3 total cache on a new WordPress installation where saving posts are incredibly slow ~1 minute or so.

When disabling W3 Total Cache the issue goes away and posts save pretty much instantly.

The site is hosted on my VPS with 2gb RAM with about 7 other WP installations. The VPS also has PHP 5.5 FPM with OPCache along with Varnish.

The only other plugins active are Force Renerate Thumbnails.

The theme is a custom Genesis Child Theme I’m working on. The site has around 100 blog posts which have been imported and around 15 posts on a custom post type.

I tried disabling certain features like page cache and object cache within W3 but the only way I’ve found to fix this issue is by disabling the plugin completely.

Can anyone help or point me in the right direction?

    Thanks in advance

  • What modules are you running and what modes are you running them on? modes referring to disk, apc, etc? Also can I have a URL?

    Thanks for the response.

I’d rather not post a link as it’s still under development etc but…

    Page cache: Disc enhanced
Browser cache with the extra goodies in the browser cache page
Database cache doesn’t usually get turned on with my sites
Object cache enabled with default settings
Varnish cache enabled with the correct IP.

Again here is my setup: Apache (I’d prefer Nginx but don’t trust it with Whm/Cpanel), Varnish with Pound (but Pound is not for this domain), PHP 5.5 FPM with OPCache.

I’ve had issues with other sites on my VPS been slow to save posts but never this bad. Front end speed is fine and usually everything hits Varnish with the cached pages anyway so no problem here.

I’ve disabled auto save, revisions and increased PHP memory to 128MB. I must stress that the only other plugin installed is Force Regenerate Thumbnails.

Just strange saving posts is the issue and even disabling all modules apart from the Varnish IP module still causes slow saving times until completely deactivating the plugin.

Originally I thought it was page or object caching but turning that off didn’t solve it.

    Out of ideas really.

More than happy to submit reports etc if needed.

    Thanks!

Also New Relic screams alerts at me and shows massive spikes when trying to save posts WITH w3 enabled and is happy when it’s turned off so can always take screenshots of this bits too if needed

Try turning off Database and Object Caching. Running these from Disk can slow the website down more than it improves.

I am also experiencing slow save post time when Varnish module is enabled.

    Then turn off Varnish caching.
