• Hello,
I am new to WordPress and want to know how to save my work that is in process so I can come back to it at a later time. I saw on a video that there is supposed to be a “save draft” button but on my version, there is no such option. Should I upgrade to 3.8 and will the save draft function be there? Thanks for any help.

  • Why are you using an old copy of WordPress? Were you aware that your site is currently running a very real risk of being hacked? You need to upgrade WordPress asap.

3.6.1 is the version that my website designer used when using WordPress through GoDaddy (which I am in the process of changing hosts). So I assume that all I need to do is hit the UPGRADE NOW to 3.8 button? Will I then have the Save Draft option?

One thing at a time. First, upgrade WordPress.

OK, be back at ya after I do that. Thanks.

    Hello Moderator,
I have upgraded to 3.8.1. I still do not see the “save draft” button I saw in the video. Please advise. Thank you.

The save draft is under your posts section.
If the post you are creating is not finished you can save it as a draft.
If you don’t see the button then check drop menu of SCREENOPTIONS. You may have that Publish tab turned off. Turn it on and then make sure your publish toggle is on. You can click it and you will see what i mean

Also under the SCREENOPTIONS make sure you have 2 columns checked not just 1… Test that also.

    Hello adamorange,

I do not see what you are talking about when I go to Posts. In Posts, when I click Screen Options, all I see is this:
    Show on screen
    Author Categories Tags Comments Date

All of those are checked. I do not see anything about saving as a draft.

Also, I do not understand what you are talking about when you say: under the SCREENOPTIONS make sure you have 2 columns checked not just 1…

Sorry for seeming so DUMB but I just do not see what you say I should see. Thanks.

    Hello adamorange,
And just to be clear, I want to say that I am not talking about creating a new page and saving THAT to draft, I am just making changes to a page that is already live on my site. I want to make some changes that are big changes so it will take a long time and cannot do it in one sitting.

There is no option to save drafts of published pages in WordPress by default.

Whoa! That’s really too bad…..I am used to having that option with other programs. Any chance WordPress will ever change that?

    Any work-arounds for me?
