Saving my MySql

  • Okay I tried to do an upgrade through cpanel and careless me I replaced all my files not fully aware of the consequences. So what I have now is a workable homepage of sorts in which I cannot update <i>anything</i>. I just want to get it back to the beginning where I think it was working but I don’t know if it was to be sure.
    I want to preserve my database with the posts I’ve already written. And yet reformat all the templates — can I do this and is this the most efficient way? Please keep it simple, I’m an ubernewbie in these affairs and have no idea what i’m doing.

  • Well, depending on what all you edited in index.php and wp-layout.css, you shouldn’t be in too rough of shape. You *might* have lost your layout, if you overwrote it. You could always contact your host and see if they have a backup from a day or two ago.
    Your MySQL stuff is separate, you won’t have overwritten that, unless you did something horrendous. Doesn’t sound like you did.
    Since this is probably the case, re-upload the wordpress stuff. Update the wp-config.php file and you should be good to go.

    I did something really weird and botched it — I probably got a little impatient with it too. Luckily, it was only a month.
