When I try to save changes to the Autoptimize plugin, Wordfence throws up this error page.

A potentially unsafe operation has been detected in your request to this site
Your access to this service has been limited. (HTTP response code 403)

However, it doesn’t lock me out and I can access my admin dashboard.

I tried using “Live Traffic” page feed and locate the request that was blocked, but there is no entry, so I can’t add it to the allow list.

As far as I can tell, it is only affecting one of my sites, and luckily it is my testing site.

Can you offer any help in resolving this issue?

  • Hey bobsled; Frank of Autoptimize here. Do you happen to have “above the fold CSS” set when trying to save AO settings and does the error remain when that field is empty?

Yes, Frank. I have “above the fold CSS” set. But I get the 403 whether it’s selected or not.

I just tried deactivating Wordfence and clearing all caches. But when I try to save Autoptimize, the Wordfence error page still pops up. Weird.

So even if the “above the fold css” field is empty (and “remove render-blocking CSS” is off), you still get that error? That’s unexpected … I’ll leave you in the capable hands of the WordFence team, following the conversation with great interest and jumping in if needed! ??

I think I have found the pesky little problem, Frank.

My developer recently moved the location of this site on my server. I can now see that Wordfence is not correctly set for the new sub-folder location.

So I’ll send him a note to take a look.
