• As a professional web developer at a web agency, this plugin is a must-have. It helps me achieve greatness without coding everything from the ground up. It also saves me a lot of time by letting me easily compose blocks and assign fields to them.

    That is misinformation.

    ACF Pro is licensed under the General Public License. People can choose themselves if they want the original directly from the creator or the free pro version from Automattic.

    Please note that WP Engine can change the license for new updates. Yet the current release is available under GPL which includes the following rights:

    • The right to download and run the software freely
    • The right to make changes to the software as desired
    • The right to redistribute copies of the software
    • The right to modify and distribute copies of new versions of the software

    So basically you want to say i can download now WooCommerce, nulled it and just change name and fork it as mine?

    @jamieblomerus you said: “the free pro version from Automattic.

    Well, that’s how it should be, but it’s relaunched in the name of www.remarpro.com. That is just so wrong.

    @davelo I fully agree.

    @divinelight1 yes, you can do that if it’s licensed under GPL. This even counts for Premium plugins if they are licensed under that, just like ACF Pro. But you aren’t allowed to use the brand names, of course.

    There are some guidelines to follow, like referencing to the original author (download Rank Math and search for Yoast, you’ll see what i mean). But the copy of ACF Pro, that is all erased by A8C. If they follow their own guidelines, they should add it.

    but wasnt there iirc a guideline on wporg plugin repo that specifically disallowed forks of existing premium plugins?

    Reminder: Forked Premium Plugins Are Not Permitted

    also frankly especially in the way automattic has done all that is especially scummy.
