sanitize_url is deprecated

    Deprecated: sanitize_url is deprecated since version 2.8.0! Use esc_url_raw() instead. in /home/myserverusername/public_html/mywebsite/wp-includes/functions.php on line 4773

    Not sure when this popped up, but it displays on the live web page (visible in Safari and Chrome). It’s referencing a v2.8 but the plugin is v1.6..? Is this a plugin issue, or a WordPress issue, or..? Do I edit the functions.php page and hope that subsequent theme or WP edits don’t overwrite it when they update next?

    Could you kindly specify what version of WP you are currently using on your website? According to the official information by WP the function has been restored for WP 5.9:
    5.9.0 Restored (un-deprecated).
    2.8.0 Deprecated in favor of esc_url_raw().
    2.3.1 Introduced.

    WP Current version: 5.8.5
    Photo Gallery plugin current version: 1.7.4

    Is anything I can do? Thanks!

    Thank you for the question!
    As mentioned previously the function has been restored starting from WP 5.9 and higher hence if you are willing to update your WP version this will eliminate the error message,
