Sandbox Revisited

  • I used the Sandbox theme for years, even though development on it halted. I’ve been tweaking it and improving it, I realize some people might find what I have done to it useful.

    I submitted it to the WP theme directory, but they were reluctant to add it to their repository as it was simply an improvement on Sandbox. They suggested I contact the original Sandbox guy, but he never answered my email.

    But I’d like to contribute to the community in some way and hopefully help out any Sandbox lovers out there. You can download it from my site at:

    I’m calling it Sandbox Revisited for lack of a better name, it’s GPU licensed, please use it for whatever you like.

    Note that it only works on wp 2.9. It includes support for post thumbnails and page comments which will foul up older wp installations and WPMU. It has a whole bunch of other features and improvements over the old Sandbox, I know it looks ugly but it’s meant to be a base for your own custom theme and styled and hacked as needed.

    Can you please try adding it to the WP theme directory again, explaining that you had no response from the author. I tried contacting him as well quite some time ago and never heard anything either.

    I was looking for this type of thing through google. I don’t know why I didn’t come here first! Thanks for your updates on the sandbox. Did you do any documentation as far a the details of what you changed, added or removed? That would be a big help I think.
